INTRODUCTION

I decided to choose my school's drama club for my ethnography because I was interested in joining and this was my excuse to go and look to see if I liked it. Before I committed myself to something like the drama club I wanted to know how it affected other people and what kind of things I could do. Soon after I started observing the drama club I joined deciding I could handle it and the Homework I got from school.

RESEARCH QUESTIONS

·         What can I do in Drama?

·         How does drama affect the member's school lives?

·         Are all people in Drama smart?

·         Is Drama only Shakespeare?

RESEARCH METHODS

·         Primary Research Methods

The primary research method I used was observing the drama club from a distance and then taking note on what I observed. I also interviewed two people and got their responses to help I’m my decision.

·          Observations

I did my observations during rehearsals and during one of the production days. I have learned a lot about drama and the people who participate in it just by observing a few rehearsals. If I based all my thoughts off my observations id say that all of the members are really friendly and together can get a lot of work done. I also found out that a lot of people do drama because they like to act and be creative on stage.

·         Interviews

I interviewed a couple of people in drama club to see if they could answer my research questions. I learned that not all plays are written by Shakespeare but actually there is a play for almost every popular movie. If I went by the assumption that drama only did Shakespeare plays then I probably would not have joined.

·         Secondary Sources

I didn’t find many secondary sources but from the ones I did look at I found out that there are many different styles of drama and can be produced in ever more ways. Whether it’s a one person play or groups play the production means a lot to some people. http://www.unc.edu/depts/wcweb/handouts/drama.html

RESEARCH

·          I found out that there is a lot to do in Drama and you can choose to do things you like to do like acting or just making cool light scenes. If you are an actor more pressure is on you though because you are part of the play and have to memorize your lines well enough to do it on stage in front of people.

·         Drama can make doing homework and other stuff hard but all the people I talked to said it was worth the extra effort. Even though it creates less time for homework and hanging out the people in drama liked all it had to offer.

·         Not all people are as smart as others but going off of "good" or "bad" grades they can vary as much as the people in drama vary through out the years.

·         If drama was only Shakespeare then a lot of the drama members would be in drama right now. They joined because there are some cool plays out there based off movies and books. You could even make your own play about a book if you wanted to!

CONCLUSION

·         From my research I concluded that all my assumptions about drama we for the most part wrong. It is a layed back environment and is meant to have fun in and not stress about homework or troubles at home. I find it as a place of relieve were I can go to relax and have fun. All the members of drama seem to enjoy their time there even if they have to stay late and help clean up popcorn or something. So all in all my research disproved my assumptions and I’m going to join drama.
